The difference between inspiration, and idea theft
This problem has been bothering me a lot lately. The excuse, that people used someone else's graphic for inspiration, when it's nearly half copied, is pointless and immature. So what is the difference, really?
Inspiration:
Inspiration is when you take an idea, and manipulate it to your own, with some more ideas and creativity. For example, if you see some one, with a white stripe over their collage or whatever, you think it's cool, so then you go and have a white stripe on your work. That's not right. of course. You could twirl it, add a drop shadow, add a gradient to it, change the position etc. You should never just simulate another person's idea on your own work, exactely how you see it on theirs. It's not fair on them too, isn't it? So remember, if you like an aspect, manipulate it with some more of your own ideas. If
Idea theft
This has been so common lately, you go to a website, you see it has a nice flashy new 'glitter'. You go to another, and bam, it's in your face. A 'glitter', with the same layer styles, the same bevel style, the same filter settings, the same outlines and on the same layers. Then they say "but hey, I used a totally different colour scheme, seriously!" Yeah sure, that was hard to change the colours, must've took you ages to find a new colour scheme ¬___¬
It's super annoying when you see everyone and their mum having the same style of content on every site, right? Why should you visit one of those sites, when you could use a unique graphic, on another? Idea theft won't exactely bring you compliments, or visitors. It will just repel visitors, as there's no point staying on a site that's basically a carbon copy off another.
I hope this article have given you an insight into the difference, and I hope less people would theif other people's ideas, and to know when to stop.. though I'm not too sure that, that will happen to everyone =o
